Bears and Birdfeeding

Join Phil Robbins, from Brookfield Wild Birds Unlimited, for a look into the lives of one of the largest animals in the state, the black bear. We’ll explore the biology and life history of these secretive animals as well as share some tips and tricks to help reduce the likelihood of bear visits in your own yard. We’ll also discuss feeders and food options that birds often like and bears often don’t. Native plantings around the feeder station will attract both resident and migratory birds to your feeder station without attracting bears. Ken Elkins, Education Program Manager, Audubon Center Bent of the River will join us to briefly discuss about how native plants provide essential insects, fruit, seeds and shelter that birds need year round.
Registration is required. Please contact the Southbury Public Library at 203-262-0626 to sign up or click here.
