Frankies- A Waterbury Gem is Coming to Brookfield!

Eighty-two years ago, brothers Paul and Frank Caiazzo opened their restaurant in Waterbury – the original Frankie’s. Initially, business was slow – they needed something different to attract more customers. Paul came up with the idea of an extra-long hot dog. Their supplier agreed to make it and their baker provided the special bun. The foot-long hot dog was an instant hit and has stayed that way. In 2011, Forbes magazine named Frankie’s as having one of the ten best hotdogs in the US.

Mine Hill Distillery Opens in Roxbury

Town Appeal welcomes the Mine Hill Distillery to Roxbury, CT! Owner Elliott Davis, a venture capitalist and owner of New Leaf Farm in Washington, had a vision to open a distillery. While searching for a location he met with Roxbury First Selectman Barbara Henry and she urged him to consider the former Roxbury train station, which was in urgent need of repair. Elliott purchased the property in 2015, with a plan to repurpose the existing buildings, ensuring they kept their 19th century look, while reusing as many materials as possible, even the original floor boards.
